Boston: A True Walker's Paradise

We all know how much of a beautiful city Boston is. It’s differentiating forms of architecture hailing from various countries and time periods, the beautiful parks and green spaces, not to mention the quaint and relaxing atmosphere that commonly is associated with the city. All of these make for the perfect recipe for a city that one would love to go for a stroll in for leisure or work-related reasons.

As we discussed in several previous blog posts, Boston is the top biked and walked city throughout the nation! The safety of doing so and the convenience that our city has for these forms of transportation make biking and walking an increasingly attractive alternative from driving or other means of getting around such as public transportation.

Just recently, ‘Walk Score’ put together a list of three hundred ‘walker’s paradises’ that represent different neighborhoods in cities throughout the United States. They were given a score from 0-100 in rating how walker-friendly these locations are. Fifty-one cities had at least one walker’s paradise in this group of three hundred places in total, and Boston actually had fourteen worthy neighborhoods that made the rankings! The walker’s paradises in Boston along with their scores are below:

  1. Haymarket – 100
  2. Bay Village – 98
  3. Chinatown – 97
  4. Beacon Hill – 97
  5. Government Center – 97
  6. Downtown Crossing – 96
  7. North End – 96
