Brighton is a Boston neighborhood made up of an intricate lay out of streets lined with houses and small apartment buildings populated with families, young professionals, and graduate students. Brighton is home to and in close proximity to many of the city’s more notable intricacies.
Brighton is similar in many aspects to its neighboring community, Allston. One of the more prominent differences of the two however is the level of activity, Brighton being known as less busy overall. The most activity in Brighton is on Washington Street which runs straight through Brighton Center to Oak Square. Washington street is densely populated with a mixture of establishments ranging from local family businesses to national chains and pharmacies. Another main street of Boston that runs through the area is Commonwealth Avenue, which in the Brighton neighborhood in particular, is lined with cemeteries and apartment houses.
Brighton is located on the green line of the MBTA subway and is accessible from many bus routes. Many bodies of water serve as physical attractions in the area, a part of the Charles River is located in Brighton as well as the Chestnut Hill Resevoir, and Chandlers Pond. The Charles River separates Brighten from some of its neighboring communities in the city such as Cambridge and Watertown. Other neighboring areas to Brighton are Newton and Brookline.
Brighton is home to many public as well as private schools. Brighton offers excellent public education from elementary level schooling to high school. Located in Brighton is the prestigious Mount St. Joseph Academy, as well as the EF International Language School which is an English and college preparatory school for international students. Brighton supports diversity within its population by providing higher education opportunity for international residents. The area itself also houses a number of branches of local universities, students and faculty of these universities also find themselves settling in the Brighton area for its convenience. Branches of Boston College, and Harvard University are located in the neighborhood while Boston University has a prominent affiliation with the area due to its close proximity.
