The North End is most famous for being Boston’s oldest residential neighborhood since being settled in 1603. The area is known for its plethora of Italian restaurants and strong ties to Italian roots in the area known as ‘Little Italy’. Only encompassing a territory of 0.5 square miles, Boston’s North End has upwards of one hundred eating establishments and countless tourist attractions. With a different Italian Festival every weekend throughout the summer, there is rarely a dull moment in the North End. It is also home to the Old North Church, made famous by Paul Revere.
Several recently built mid-rise buildings offer tremendous views of Boston Harbor, as well as access to nearby comedy clubs, restaurants and pastry shops. In terms of the educational landscape of the North End there is the John Eliot Elementary School, the St. John’s School, a private Catholic school, and the North Bennet Street School which is a trade and craftsmanship school founded in 1885. Much of the architecture in the area stems from the late 19th to early 20th Century with famous older establishments such as the Old North Church constructed in 1723, the Paul Revere House from 1680, the Pierce-Hichborn House from 1711 and the Clough House built in 1712. Walking through the Boston’s North End, one is immediately put at ease from its charm and deep-rooted culture combined with its updated feel. The small neighborhood sense of the North End is one that is still close enough to allow residents to have that city feel, all while being apart of a personal community, much of which is viewed through Boston’s Freedom Trail.
