More than just a simple fundraiser, Pie in the Sky has been assisting those in Eastern Massachusetts since 1993. Every November volunteers from all over Eastern Massachusetts become pie sellers, with proceeds benefiting the critically ill.
Our own Matthew Gaskill and Alisa Peterson are participating as pie sellers in this years fundraiser. Heres how it works: Each pie costs the buyer $25. Each pie guarantees an entire weeks worth of delicious and healthy meals to our neighbors who are critically ill and in need of food and assistance.
These ill individuals are clients of Community Servings, an organization that specializes in cost-effective ways to prepare and deliver a warm lunch, dinner and snack every year to sick clients. On the day before Thanksgiving, each generous donor will be pick up their pie here at Gibson Sotheby's at 597A Tremont in the South End or at the location of their choice. There are roughly 150 bakers and restaurants who will be constructing these fabulous pies from all over the Greater Boston Area. Many varieties are available to choose from including apple, non-sugar apple, pecan, pumpkin and sweet potato.
In a typical year, 1,300 homebound people of all ages from 17 different communities within Massachusetts are blessed because of our help. $0.90 of every $1.00 raised during the 2010 pie sale went to feeding Community Servings clients.
There is no better way to enjoy a homemade tasting pie made with love than with your friends and family. This important time is even more special when we extend the lesson to all of those close to us that there are others struggling on Thanksgiving, and that by us lending a helping hand, we are graciously displaying the true meaning of the holiday.
Matthew, Alisa and the rest of Gibson Sothebys International Realty team would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
