One of the last major pieces of Real Estate on the South Boston Waterfront has begun construction and will eventually become a 21-story apartment tower at Pier 4. This is Hanover Co. of Houstons debut in Boston as it is their first major project in the city.
There will be 369 apartments constructed from singles to three bedrooms all fitted with top-of-the-line appliances and fixtures. An underground parking garage will also be built that will include 258 parking spaces. 50 of these apartments will be called innovation units which are ideally for single workers who are looking for a more intimate spaces that are also more affordable. A first floor expanse will be used as a retail store although nothing has been set in stone yet confirming the details.
The waterfront is now booming with construction and activity. In fact, this project is officially the fourth largest apartment complex to begin construction this year. What separates this building from the rest is the incredible views it provides and many have said that this building will potentially have one of the best views in the city. Perhaps this comes from the way the building has been designed in an L shape to conform around the harbor.
The rest of the work on the pier will be constructed by New England Development. The pier is getting three other buildings as well which are expected to be magnificent in design. In addition to the apartment building, two other buildings will be constructed which includes stores, hotel rooms, and offices. What people are most excited about is the public park that will be built where Anthony's Pier 4 is currently located.
Mayor Thomas M. Menino has commented and seems enthused about the four new buildings being constructed on the waterfront. Which has often been reported, he has renamed the area the Innovation District.
