Gibson Sothebys International Realty as well as our own Tim Deihl and Amy Butterworth, (Savin Hill), were proud sponsors of Oscars on the Avenue an annual event that raised over $13,000 to support the work of St. Marks Area Main Street (SMAMS).
SMAMS works to revitalize the business district on Dorchester Avenue, from Ashmont Station to just south of Fields Corner, and is part of the Boston Main Street program that follows a four-point approach 1) community organization, 2) promotion, 3) design and 4) economic restructuring. Specific Main Street activities and operations include storefront improvement grants, public enhancements, local promotional and fund-raising events such as road races, parades, and multi-cultural festivals) - events that strategically aim to enhance the image of the business district and attract consumers. SMAMS will be using the funds raised to start new beautification and business development projects, strengthen the Ashmont/Peabody Square Farmers' Market, and more.
Tim Deihl is the SMAMS Board President; he and Amy have dedicated their time to help SMAMS continue to strengthen the community, support businesses in our neighborhoods, and build a vibrant place for people to live, work, and play.
At the event, guests dined on delicious antipasti and appetizers from Chef Nuno Alves and his team at Tavolo Ristorante and enjoyed Best Picture themed cocktails. The high point of the evening was most definitely the Neighborhood Academy Awards. Attendees were awarded several honors, including best dressed (Jennifer House, Flat Black Coffee), best accessory (Tim Davis, Tim Davis Consulting), and best dressed couple (Philippe Saad and Anil Nair, DiMella Shaffer, Back to Life Chiropractic and Wellness).
Executive Director Meaghan Overton summed up the evening this way, Oscars on the Avenue was such a fun night, and it was wonderful to see everyone come together to support the work were doing in the SMAMS district.
