Agent Spotlight: Kerry Dowlin

Kerry Dowlin is one of the top producing agents in the Boston area with over 180 million in closed sales over 15 years in the industry. After joining Gibson Sothebys International Realty in 2006, she has quickly risen to the top of her field. However, she would tell you that she is simply lucky to do what she loves for a living.

I still get excited by matching buyers with ahome that is idealfor them," she says.

Her first career was in the golf industry as a teaching professional in the LPGA. This passion for the energetic, dynamic world of athletic events next led Kerry to a position in sports marketing and brought her to Boston. She worked on the corporate side of things to plan events and interact directly with high profile clients such as a Gillette and Fidelity Investments. Though grateful for the opportunity to travel around the country and meet new people, Kerry eventually decided to move on to a career in Real Estate. When I bought my first home, she says, I really wanted to get off the road and do something more local. Choosing Dorchester for its diverse community, interesting architecture, amenities near the water, and relativeaffordability, Kerry set off on a new venture in Boston.

Though it was unknown to her at the time, this decision would ignite a fresh passion. Finally, able to remain in one location for an extended amount of time, she found herself popping into local open houses. If only to peek at a homes unique structure or design, these excursions soon became routine. Having organized nearly 20 or 30 events annually for her previous job, Kerry had a keen eye for staging and planning. I thought that was a great training ground for being a realtor and learning to juggle a lot of balls at once, she says. And soon, she fell in love with properties, renovation, and design.

It was a natural fit to start selling real estate.

She began working in a small, independent office nearby in Dorchester. As Bostons largest neighborhood, with around 130,000 residents across several square miles, Dorchester offered a large, intricate market for real estate. Kerry spent many years getting to know its numerous pockets and smaller neighborhoods. Eventually, she moved to a larger firm that offered greater marketing and exposure. Just a few years later, this firm became the Gibson Sothebys International Realty we know today. I love working for an independent firm but also having the global brand and the ability to market my listings in the most effective wayeverywhere.

Now, Kerry says she knows Dorchester like the back of my hand. Having sold inpretty much all of the areas neighborhoods over the years, and even living in several as well, she is a familiar and well-known expert of Dot. With more property sold than any individual realtor ever in Dorchester, Kerry says she is incredibly proud to be considered one of the most trusted agents in this market place.

However, she makes a point to never lose sight of her clients. With about 90 % of business coming from repeat clients and personal referrals, Kerry stresses the importance of maintaining a meaningful and personal connection with the people she meets. It isn't about meit's about them and their end game. I just use my expertise to helpget them there.

This connection even extends beyond real estate. Kerry is there for the celebrations of growing families and changing needs. Speaking to the natural progression of her clients to first purchase a condo or smaller apartment, and then upsize to make room for children, Kerry notes her excitement that her clients are more frequently staying in the city instead of moving to the burbs and getting involved with local public schools. Because of this, I have been on local committees and supported local schools and charter schools over the years to ensure that our residents have great options.
