Bostons South Shore is bursting with farmers markets every day of the week you can find a market open to the community, an opportunity to shop local, fresh produce, homemade breads and baked goods, as well as support local agriculture.
The scene differs in each town, but recently we attended the Marshfield Farmers Market, held seasonally on Fridays on the famous Marshfield Fairgrounds. The simple sound of a guitar filled the grounds and local farmers set up their tables with a colorful array of fresh fruits and vegetables ripe blueberriesoverflowing in their crates, baskets of leafy green kale and jewel-toned plums.
Vendors boasted they had just picked their produce that very morning, and local businesses set up tables with unique, homemade gifts. Tables were filled with fresh farm eggs, freshly baked cookies, handmade pottery, all natural oilsand hand-crafted jewelry. A friendly clown, Little Bit, added colorful entertainment, twisting balloons into animals or swords and presenting magic tricks to the little ones.
Below, we have highlighted a few local farmers market as a resource for residents and an opportunity for visitors. Happy shopping!
