Pantone, the global authority on all things color, has named a new Color of the Year for 2020: PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue. On the surface, the reflective blue tone is elegant in its simplicity. But it is worth diving a bit deeper to appreciate this thought-provoking shade.

"It's a color that anticipates what's going to happen next," said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute. "What's the future going to bring as we move into the evening hours?"
This is indeed an important question as we venture into a new decade. But as pioneering as it may be, the 2020 Color of the Year brings us full circle to the very first Color of the Year: Cerulean, another blue shade selected in 1999 as we embarked on Y2K.
The 2020 Color of the Year isn't just for seeing
In collaboration with ARTECHOUSEand other partners, Pantone created a multi-sensory, fully-immersive Classic Blue experience to celebrate the reveal of its Color of the Year 2020, which it showcased in Manhattan on Wednesday evening. The innovative art space served as the backdrop of the official Color of the Year 2020 announcement to media and influencers across design and creative industries.
Classic Blue is described in part as a contemplation of where sky and sea meet: the taste of flowering vines, the touch of soft velvet, the sound of vivid nostalgia.
The fragrance of Classic Blue wafted through the air while Classic Blue sounds resounded. Classic Blue-textured cushions littered the floor and Classic Blue drinks were served.
It was, beyond dispute, a Classic Blue sight to behold.
Additional collaborators include privately-owned flavor and fragrance and flavor label Firmenich, which contributed the Classic Blue taste and smell;digital-first home furnisher The Inside, which created a custom, velvety fabric that will be sold for a limited time; Landr, the platform for musicians, which assembled a collection of 200 samples and loops evoking Classic Blue; and luxury tea blender Tealeaves, which selected a bespoke blend of botanicals inspired by the color's symbolism.
Incorporate Classic Blue into your 2020
Lighter than PANTONE 289, Sotheby's International Realty's signature hue, yet still a rich shade of blue, this reliable color wont let us downespecially when it comes to home decor. The color is a universal home favorite with a potential to "inject creative confidence into interiors," asserts Pressman. Experiment with a traditional yet bold foundation inside your own space whether it's with a vase or candle for your home or workplace, woven into an unexpected art piece, or patch-worked into a soft pillow.
