Nantucket
Located just 26 miles from mainland Cape Cod, Nantucket is a place of coastal charm and pristine beauty along the Atlantic Ocean. Very few hurry on this island—it is a place to lounge, stroll, shop, sip some wine and, for the ambitious, take a lobster-boat excursion or visit the Whaling Museum. Transportation is by plane or ferry from Hyannis (the traditional one takes a little more than two hours, but the high-speed can do it in about one) and people come to treat themselves—to ride through the cobblestone streets on a bike, laze about on the shore with a beach read, and eat lobster while looking out to some of the world’s prettiest harbors. But for those living on Nantucket year-round, the pace of life changes with the seasons. You'll find the island pleasantly free of tourist hordes during the shoulder months, and a handful of holiday festivals and seasonal establishments in the winters. Enjoy idyllic beaches, New England architecture, historic lighthouses, and infinite adventures.
